COMSA Holds Maiden Career Conference

The Communication Students Association (COMSA-UCC) held its first career conference on the 8th June, 2023 at the Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman Auditorium, Amissah-Arthur Language Center, UCC.

The conference was aimed at providing students with adequate skills in CV/resume writing and a guide on how to approach interviews.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Wincharles Coker and Dr. Daniel Edem Adzovie admonished students to pay key attention to the development of their curriculum vitae (CV) and to always prepare adequately for their job interviews, which will make them employable and also boost their chances of getting scholarship opportunities.

Dr. Wincharles Coker also drew the attention of students to the common errors that must be avoided in a CV, most especially errors that have got to do with the aesthetics including the font, style, page numbering and also grammar and typographical errors among others. He advised that students make it a habit to review their CVs every day to get rid of these oversight errors.

Also at the conference, the Patron of the Communication Students’ Association, Dr. Daniel Edem Adzovie urged students to be mindful of their dressing when they are attending interviews. He stressed that one’s outfit for an interview is a non-verbal form of communication which creates a lot of impression for the interviewing panel; hence one ought to pay particular attention to it. He also highlighted the need for the interviewee to research the organization that has invited him/her for an interview and abreast him/herself with basic information about the organization before attending the interview. He also added that an interviewee must always be confident when answering questions or asking for clarification.

The conference was massively attended by students from the Department of Communication Studies, as well as students from other departments, schools, faculties, and colleges within the University.
