About Us

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION STUDIES

Beginning as a unit primarily responsible for teaching academic writing to freshmen, the Department of Communication Studies has blossomed into one of the most vibrant departments in the Faculty of Arts. The Department was birthed in 2010 with the core mandate of training a critical mass of human resource in print and broadcast media; advertising and public relations; rhetorical communication as well as academic and technical communication. Unlike other analogous departments in other universities, the Department of Communication Studies is unique in the sense that it emphasizes a truly interdisciplinary perspective to the teaching and learning of communication and media studies from both humanistic and social sciences approaches.

H.O.D OF COMMUNICATION STUDIES, UCC

Message from the H.O.D

Welcome to the Department of Communication Studies of the University of Cape Coast. It is the largest department housed in the Faculty of Arts. As a department, we pride in the fact that communication is key to the development of societies and the architecture of social relations. With faculty that employ both humanistic and social scientific tools to explore complex issues concerning media, journalism, rhetoric, advertising, public relations, academic communication, the department is uniquely placed to address head-on a panoply of human and societal problems that confront development.

I am happy to report that the department takes a praxis-oriented, ethical, and inclusive approach to engaging and sharing knowledge, first with our students, and our diverse publics. Our goal is to create enabling ecologies that aid in making students become both competent professionals, and ethical, critical global citizens and agents of change for the rapidly changing world of work.

I invite you to take a look at what the department offers by scanning these webpages and learn more about the opportunities the Department of Communication Studies offers to both our undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Thank you.
